Hello, my name is SMiLE, also known as Felix Reder, and I’m excited to share a piece of my passion for surfboard design with you.
I’m 25 years old, originally from Germany, and spent several years living in Berlin – the place where I discovered my true passion for creating surfboards.

I’ve always been into drawing, constantly driven to bring the images in my head to life. But it wasn’t until 2016, when I discovered surfing, that I realized I could connect my creative side with something that sparked an even deeper fire in me: the ocean.

The Beginning of My Surf Journey

My journey started on the west coast of France, where I caught my first waves as a beginner. The feeling of standing up on a wave for the first time was pure magic – and it never left me. Even then, I knew surfing was going to be more than just a hobby. It became a way of life, something I wanted to experience for as long as possible.

Diving into the Surf Industry

Later, I had the privilege of working as the head coach at Germany’s largest indoor wave. This experience didn’t just improve my surf skills – it helped me realize something important: life in the surf industry was exactly where I belonged. I knew then that my future would lie somewhere between the waves and the world of creative surfboard design.

The Turning Point – A Spray Can in My Hand

In 2018, I picked up a spray can for the first time – and that was the turning point. It became clear that I didn’t just want to be creative; I wanted to make a name for myself within the surf community. I wanted to do what I love: designing surfboards.
My canvas isn’t a wall, a train, or a gallery – my canvas is your surfboard.

The Journey to Sri Lanka

In 2024, I took a big step to refine my craft and traveled to Sri Lanka, where I trained with a local surfboard shaper deep in the jungle. There, I fully immersed myself in the art of shaping – learning everything about materials, construction, forms, and finishes.
It was an experience that not only helped me evolve as a designer but also allowed me to sell boards to popular surf spots, private clients, and local shops – giving me valuable insights into the global surf scene.
